See it in motion

A match as it plays: base building, oil, and a war across land, sea and air.

01

Changelog

The six most recent releases: full-strength missiles, two busy civilians, Linux, the F-44 Rapier, AWACS fixes and a new runtime. Since 0.9.43 the game also gained the AWACS, attack runs, airbases with fuel and flares, the B-120 Stealth Bomber, the Splitter warhead, a sandbox you can save, and AIs that talk back in chat.

Newv0.9.67September 28, 2026

Version 0.9.67

Full-strength missiles, and 120 fixes. Missiles and rockets used to burst a little short of the target; now they do their full stated damage at any frame rate, so SAM Towers, Destroyer anti-air, F-6 Multis and Rocket Soldiers hit harder. A blast now reaches a large building anywhere on its footprint, so bases take more from bombs and shells. Online, a started match is kept for two minutes if everyone drops, and orders given during a drop are carried out once you are back. Aircraft that lose their base find another, paths no longer clip coasts and cliffs, the selection panel scrolls, and big armies and busy bases cost far less to draw and to send. Everyone in a match needs v0.9.67.

v0.9.66September 27, 2026

Version 0.9.66

d0kost and Stigern get busy. The two easter-egg civilians near the middle of the map now do push-ups, type on a laptop or jog a few laps between their walks and chats, and online players see their names, chat and antics too. Jets roll from a standstill down the runway and lift off at flying speed, the B-120 and the F-44 Rapier have their own voices, island AIs keep room for a Tech Center and power their bases, and the online relay caps how much it holds so one abuser cannot run it out of memory.

v0.9.65September 27, 2026

Version 0.9.65

Iron Command runs on Linux. A 64-bit build for Ubuntu 22.04 and later and other current distributions: unpack the archive and start run-ironcommand.sh. The launcher keeps Chromium's sandbox on wherever the system allows it, and where Ubuntu 24.04+ blocks it for downloaded apps the game starts without it and prints the one command that turns it back on. Every release now ships Windows, macOS and Linux together on the same version, and all three play together online. Everyone in a match needs v0.9.65.

v0.9.64September 27, 2026

Version 0.9.64

The F-44 Rapier, an air-superiority jet from the Airfield or a carrier (1,800 oil): the fastest aircraft in the game at 330, and it engages aircraft only. Six long-range radar missiles for stand-off passes, two heat-seekers for the kill up close, and built-in countermeasures — 4 flares against heat-seekers, 6 chaff bundles against radar missiles. The AI builds Rapiers once it sees an air threat, patrols with them and escorts B-120 strikes. The Fighter is now the F-6 Multi, which is what it is: it hits ground and air.

v0.9.63September 26, 2026

Version 0.9.63

Forty-two fixes. The AWACS keeps its station through group moves and a return to base, a parked one no longer counts as a radar, and it refuses attack orders instead of turning the target into its station. Airfield LAUNCH sends only the picks that are Ready. Mortars back off from a target inside their minimum range, Zeus HOLD FIRE holds a dived Zeus too, the AI no longer reacts to a B-120 it has not detected, and the relay drops a connection that stops reading.

v0.9.62September 26, 2026

Version 0.9.62

A new runtime: the game now runs on Electron 44 instead of the Electron 33 line, which stopped receiving security fixes in 2025. Nothing in the game changes; the browser engine and the LAN host's network stack are current again.

A game created
with AI assistance

Iron Command is a fully-featured real-time strategy game that was written with the assistance of AI.

From the game mechanics to unit balancing, from the procedural map generation to the AI opponent behaviour, AI played a key role in the development process.

Created by Stigern, this project demonstrates the potential of AI-assisted game development.

02

Core Features

Classic RTS gameplay with modern features. Every match plays out on a unique battlefield.

01

Build Your Base

Construct 23 different building types including Command Centers, factories, turrets, and experimental weapons.

02

Land Combat

Deploy 12 vehicle types from nimble Scouts to beam-linking Prism Tanks, long-range HIMARS and the missile-killing Sentinel.

03

Air Superiority

Command 11 aircraft types from fast Helicopters to heavy Bombers, ship-killing Harpoons, the F-44 Rapier interceptor, the B-120 Stealth Bomber and the AWACS Argus. Jets fly from Airfields and carriers with fuel, flares and attack runs.

04

Naval Warfare

Rule the seas with 9 warship classes including stealth Submarines, the Zeus missile boat, the Aegis missile-defence ship, an Aircraft Carrier with its own air wing, and the Dreadnought capital ship.

05

Procedural Maps

14 map modes from Classic and Archipelago to Great River, Fjords, Peninsulas and Twin Continents — rounded organic shorelines, ocean effects, and seeded randomness.

06

Smart AI

Face 8 AI personalities with a strategic analyst that picks from 18 strategies, plans from what it has scouted, and drops plans that are not working.

07

Research & Upgrades

Build a Tech Center to research 24 global upgrades across Armor, Combat, Economy and Range tabs — armor for every unit class up to level 5, wall material, aircraft flares, targeting optics, fire control, veterancy, economy boosts, faster missile defence, and longer reach for your SAM Towers, radar and launchers.

08

Layered Explosions & Sound

Every blast is built from a flash, a lumpy fireball, a shockwave, arcing sparks and rolling smoke. Sound muffles with distance and follows your camera.

09

Airbases & Fuel

F-6 Multis, F-44 Rapiers, Bombers and the B-120 are stationed at an Airfield (12 aircraft) or a carrier (8). Every jet has fuel: it turns for home on its own, then refuels, rearms and repairs on the apron. Launch a route of up to eight waypoints, patrol it, or bring everything home.

10

Sandbox Mode

An empty battlefield with all eight colours and 99,999 oil each. Spawn any unit or building, call in strikes from a small blast to a nuke, switch AIs on, freeze time, and save the whole scene to a file.

11

AIs That Talk Back

The AIs read the chat and answer in their own voice: hi, gg, trash talk, truce offers, questions about their strategy. Over 3,000 lines, and what they say depends on whether they are winning or losing.

12

Stealth & Flares

The B-120 is seen and fired on only inside 3 tiles, whatever the gun's range. Once researched, F-6 Multis, Bombers and B-120s drop decoy flares: a homing missile closing in has a 50% chance to chase the flare instead.

03

Units

Command a diverse army across land, sea, and air.

Combat Features

Area-of-Effect Weapons

Missiles, bombs, grenades, and artillery shells deal damage across an area, and reach a large building anywhere on its footprint.

Manual Missile Strikes

Target anywhere on the map with devastating Missile Launcher strikes.

Bunker Garrisons

Protect infantry behind walls. Garrisoned units fire from within.

Stealth Submarines

Invisible when dived, detected only by other submarines.

SAM Tracking

SAM missiles track targets with erratic wander before fizzling out of range.

Unit Healing

Engineers repair vehicles with visible wrench indicator. Medics heal infantry.

Fog of War

Enemy buildings you have scouted stay on the map as pale, dashed records — showing what was there when you saw it, not what is there now. The AI plays by the same rules: it only attacks what it has seen.

Veterancy System

Units earn 3 veterancy levels (3/5/8 kills) with +15% HP and attack per level.

Chain Lightning

Tesla Coils and Tesla Tanks arc electricity to nearby enemies. Upgradeable chains.

Self-Destruct

Robot Dogs detonate with massive AOE explosion. 2x damage vs infantry.

Kamikaze Drones

Shadow Launcher sends coordinated drone volleys. Adaptive AI targets missile shields first.

Death Ray Beam

Deathray satellite fires an instant AOE beam weapon with devastating damage.

Dual-Weapon Systems

Spider Artillery, Battleships, and Destroyers fire independent weapon systems simultaneously.

Procedural Death Effects

Wrecked vehicles shed their own parts — a radar dish, a launcher pod, a Tesla coil — and no two deaths look alike.

Tech Center Research

Queue 24 global upgrades — armor by class, targeting optics, fire control, veteran core, economy boosts, missile-defence speed, and range.

Layered Explosions

Flash, fireball, shockwave, arcing sparks and rolling smoke. A tank shell and an artillery shell no longer look alike.

Nuclear Strikes

Screen-wide flash, a fireball that dwarfs everything else, then a mushroom cloud standing on the field for 18 seconds.

Positional Audio

Sounds quieten and muffle with distance, carry different ranges by weapon, and soften as you zoom out.

Missile Defence Network

Aegis ships and linked Sentinel batteries shoot down nukes, SCUDs, cruise missiles and HIMARS rockets, splitting simultaneous threats between launchers.

Carrier Air Wings

Aircraft launch off the catapult, land astern and rearm on deck while the carrier moves. Aircraft on the deck cannot be shot at.

Blast Knockback

Mortar, artillery, HIMARS, bombs and missiles throw nearby infantry up to 2.5 tiles and knock them flat — unable to move or shoot until they get back up.

Attack-Move

Alt+right-click sends units forward to fight anything they meet on the way, then carry on. Every hotkey in the game can be rebound.

Construction Under Fire

Buildings take 2 to 20 seconds to raise and start at a tenth of their strength — shell a factory on the way up and it finishes damaged.

Map View

Zoom out far enough to hold a whole normal map on screen, with every unit and building drawn in its minimap colour.

Attack Runs

Jets and Bombers fly in, fire, fly past, turn back hard and come in again until the target is gone or they head home.

Carpet Bombing

The B-120's CARPET BOMB order: drag an 8-tile strip and it lays all twelve bombs along it. Several B-120s ordered together fly parallel strips.

Splitter Warhead

A fourth silo level. At 70% of its flight the missile bursts into three nuclear and six conventional warheads, each a separate target for missile defence.
